Accedian Demos Managed Small Cells Solution with Cox Business at GEN15

Automated lifecycle orchestration slashes small cell install time, assures performance, and fosters large-scale adoption.

Dallas, Texas – November 17, 2015 – Accedian Networks, the end-to-end network performance experts, is featured in the MEF’s Global Ethernet Networking 2015 event proof of concept (POC) showcase; along with with Cox Business Services, they will demonstrate a disruptive new approach to small cell deployment to jumpstart large scale roll out of the technology that, until now, has been hampered by regulatory issues, backhaul cost and operations complexity.

The PoC, titled “Agile, LSO-Ready, Performance Assured Small Cells as a Service”, showcases Carrier Ethernet lifecycle orchestration (LSO) as a means of ubiquitously enabling the small cell business case—demonstrating how both indoor and outdoor small cell backhaul can be installed, provisioned, and tested by an audience volunteer within minutes, cutting small cell deployment time and effort by over 90% when compared to existing practices.

The fully automated solution will stream live video from both indoor and outdoor small cells to show attendees, who can roam between cells while bandwidth dynamically adjusts to provide an optimized user experience. Monitored and orchestrated in real time by Accedian solutions, the trial reproduces real-world best practices used to connect and assure macro cell sites—but at a fraction of the cost, and with the least possible operational effort.

The POC also highlights Cox Business’ innovative outdoor, strand-mount small cell backhaul solution, which takes advantage of the right-of-way, power, and connectivity from Cox’s extensive fiber and hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) plant. Cox offers small cell backhaul, installation, and operation as a managed service, using the same platforms shown in the demonstration.

As noted in Heavy Reading’s current report, “Cable’s Value Proposition for Small Cells”, this unique approach is already being leveraged in live, large-scale small cell deployments where Cox serves leading Tier-1 U.S. mobile network operators.
