SK Telecom’s fully automated SDN mobile network with Accedian ‘nervous system’ tops Best Mobile Technology

Barcelona, Spain – February 24, 2016Accedian, the global end-to-end network performance experts, today announced that it has won the award for ‘Best Mobile Technology Enabler,’ in this year’s GSMA GLOMO Awards. Accedian’s award was presented yesterday at a ceremony which took place at Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. Accedian was also nominated by the GSMA’s CTO office for overall outstanding mobile technology.

Judged by a panel of independent industry experts, Accedian’s technology was recognized for its ability to provide the real-time, network-wide view of performance and quality of experience (QoE) that acts as the nervous system driving SK Telecom’s software-defined network (SDN), a big data analytics driven, multi-vendor environment. Accedian was credited by the judges as being a foundational technology to deliver exceptional user experience over LTE and 5G networks. Accedian beat strong competition, with the GSMA noting that this year’s awards had more than 930 entrants.

Accedian has worked closely with SK Telecom to enable one of the world’s few large-scale commercial SDNs, and showcase the immense impact that the virtualisation of key technologies and processes (NFV) can have on overcoming technical complexity, driving efficiency, and creating new revenue-generating services. SK Telecom has deployed a fully automated network that optimizes user experience in real-time—without human intervention—bringing notable advancements in machine learning.

Accedian’s work with SK Telecom provides further validation of its leading virtualised technology portfolio. Accedian recently launched FlowBROKER™, a disruptive technology that enables HD visibility throughout the network, and the company grew its overall sales by 25 percent in 2015. Strong global momentum has been built on continuous technology innovation, and by a series of significant operator contract wins, including new deployments with four of the world’s major service providers, including SK Telecom and Telefonica.

“We’re delighted to win this prestigious award, judged by some of the industry’s most influential leaders and analysts. This award underlines our position as a market leading provider of virtualised network performance assurance solutions. But more importantly, it’s a fantastic validation of the value that we’re able to bring to our operator and service provider customers,” says Patrick Ostiguy, CEO, Accedian. “This award gives continued validation and confidence that we can continue to deliver significant contributions to service providers who are using quality of experience to differentiate their customer offerings.”

“SK Telecom is honoured to receive this prestigious award as it highlights our commitment to improving customers’ mobile experience through virtualized network monitoring solutions. In collaboration with Accedian, the solution was developed and applied to our commercial network to play an important role in providing our customers with the best mobile experience. Our efforts will continue to develop more innovative network technologies and solutions to further enhance network performance and quality for our customers,” said Lee Jong-bong, Executive Vice President and Head of Infra Division of SK Telecom.
